Learning Through Play (LTP)

Training the trainer

icons-3The model of the international LTP program is to train desk officers and key personnel in the Education, Primary Health Care and Early Childhood Development sectors. Trained personnel will in turn serve as trainers, organizing and facilitating workshops for front line workers within their sectors, thus building a strong network to promote optimal child development.

LTP is focused on promoting understanding of the physical, socio-emotional, cognitive and language development of children. It utilizes multi-cultural materials and pictorial calendars to provide training participants with valuable tools to support healthy development of children from birth to six years of age.

LTP is designed to:

  • Provide in-depth knowledge of essential aspects of child development
  • Equip caregivers to understand the importance of their own role in the development of young children
  • Promote parent involvement
  • Support positive healthy mental health development for children

Developed through a partnership of Hincks Dellcrest Centre and the Toronto Public Health Agency, this highly successful, multicultural program has been provided to 24 countries worldwide, including Ghana, Denmark, India, Pakistan, El Salvador, Peru, Philippines, Haiti, Burkina Faso, Nicaragua, Mexico, Paraguay, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Jamaica.
